OurDurham terms of use

Last updated: [date]
These terms are an agreement between you and [OurDurham Ltd] (“we”) about using the OurDurham app. By creating an account you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your data.

1. Who can use OurDurham

OurDurham is for Durham University students aged 18 and over. You need a Durham University email address to create an account, you must be 18 or over, and you must keep your sign-in to yourself. If we find out an account belongs to someone under 18, we will delete it. OurDurham is independent and student-run: it is not run by, endorsed by or affiliated with Durham University or its colleges.

2. Your timetable and other information

Timetables come from the link you give us to Durham’s My Timetable, and can be out of date between syncs. College details, formals, events and term dates come from students, committees and public sources. We try to keep everything right but cannot promise it is: check anything important, such as an exam or a deadline, with the university.

3. Posting for a committee

If you post for a JCR, society or club, you must have its permission, and what you post must be accurate and lawful. You keep ownership of what you post, and you give us permission to show it in the app. Each committee is responsible for its own events, tickets and announcements; we do not run, sell tickets for or guarantee any event.

4. Rules for everyone

Do not:
•
harass, bully, threaten or discriminate against anyone
•
post anything illegal, hateful, sexual, misleading, or that puts people in danger
•
pretend to be someone else, or a committee you are not on
•
spam, or use the app to advertise without our permission
•
try to get at other people’s data, break the app’s security, or use automated tools on it
Report anything that breaks these rules from the post itself. We review reports, and we may remove content, remove committee access or close accounts, with or without notice, to keep the app safe.

5. Our service

The app is free for students. We may change, pause or stop features. We are not responsible for websites or services we link to, such as ticket shops or university systems.

6. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law does not allow it, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or fraud. Otherwise, we are not responsible for losses that were not foreseeable, or that come from information in the app being out of date, or from the app being unavailable. [Have this section checked by a solicitor.]

7. Ending

You can stop using OurDurham and delete your account at any time in Settings > Delete account. We may close an account that breaks these terms.

8. Changes and law

We may update these terms and will tell you in the app before important changes take effect. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
Contact: support@ourdurham.co.uk for help with the app, and legal@ourdurham.co.uk for legal notices, complaints and appeals.
Made by students, for students. Independent and not affiliated with Durham University.
